“The Dawn of Illumination” is the fourth painting in A Journey Inward series

“The Dawn of Illumination” is the fourth painting in A Journey Inward series. Late 2017 I had participated in a Vipassana meditation retreat. If you have not heard of it, it's pretty intense. For ten days you don't communicate with anyone, and you focus on meditation throughout that entire duration of time. Toward the end, I kept seeing colors that moved like jellyfish, which was the main inspiration for this painting. As with the others in this series, the image of this came to mind and I couldn't get it out of my head until I committed it to canvas. Although the inspiration began in 2017, this painting did not come to completion until 2021, as in the interim I was going through a major life transitional period of becoming a mother.
